Fredy V. & The Foundation

The Foundation is a genre-defying collective rooted in rhythm, resilience, and rich cultural expression. Led by Senegalese-Cape Verdean multihyphenate Fredy V and longtime collaborator Mel Pacifico, the group unites a rotating lineup of top-tier musicians, creating a sound built on live instrumentation, groove-driven rhythms, and vivid storytelling. Their music seamlessly blends funk, R&B, Afrobeats, and hip hop, resulting in a style that’s both globally resonant and unmistakably their own.

After making waves in Washington D.C. and now based in Montreal, Fredy V has earned a reputation for dynamic stage presence, vocal versatility, and a collaborative spirit, working with artists like Aiza, Anomalie, Malika Tirolien, Snarky Puppy, Kool & The Gang, Roy Ayers, and UK neo-soul pioneer Omar. A life-threatening health scare transformed Fredy V from solo artist to leader, bringing together Mel Pacifico and a powerhouse team to form The Foundation. Since their 2020 debut EP, ONE STEP, the group has evolved from backing band to production unit, building a vibrant catalogue that reflects their diverse backgrounds and shared vision. Their experience spans national TV performances, collaborations with Canadian talents, and a growing presence in Canada’s R&B and Afrobeats scene.

Fredy V. & The Foundation - a group of - highly skilled - first call musicians that are known for playing with Montreal's top r&b, hip hop, funk, gospel and jazz acts.

From the explosive funk grooves of “Didn't Cha Know” to the electrifying Afrobeats pulse of the title track, “No Tribe No I”, this album is a sonic adventure. “Find Me” creates a seamless blend of Afrobeats and Brazilian rhythms, with sultry guitars and nostalgic horns, while “Make It Right” builds from a minimalist soundscape into a powerful climax, exploring the complexities of modern relationships. The journey continues with “When I Call”, a disco-inspired groove reminiscent of Nile Rodgers, balancing a feel-good vibe with introspective lyrics. “Reach For Me” then offers a sensual blend of R&B and Afrobeats, creating a soothing soundscape perfect for

self-reflection. Amidst this eclectic mix, “Pho The Vibe” featuring Oddisee stands out, blending G-Funk nostalgia with smooth R&B in a celebration of artistic integrity and longevity in the face of an industry that prioritizes fleeting viral moments and celebrity culture.

With its diverse soundscape and meaningful lyrics, No Tribe, No I is an invitation to dance, reflect, and connect – not just with others, but with the most authentic version of ourselves. It's a powerful statement of unity and personal growth in an increasingly interconnected world.
